Cloud Computing Saves SMBs During Pandemic Fallout

Navigating the Path Forward

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted any notion of business as usual. For instance, maintaining a successful remote workforce is here to stay. Fortunately, cloud computing has been a lifesaver for businesses as it has enabled them to keep operations going, implement or expand their WFH (work-from-home) programs, and keep up with changing customer requirements.

To understand the pandemic's immediate impact on small and medium businesses (SMBs), SMB Group fielded its first survey study on this topic in March: Impact of COVID-19 on Small and Medium Businesses.

Recently, SMB Group conducted a follow-up study, SMBs: Navigating a Path Forward, to examine how SMBs that stayed afloat during the first few months of the pandemic are faring now. The study also explores the paths these SMBs are taking to sustain their businesses amid the continuing uncertainty. SMB Group fielded the survey from mid-June to early July 2020, acknowledging this timeline is critical to interpreting the results, as COVID-19’s trajectory and impact are constantly changing. At the time of the study, respondents were working for companies that were still in business.

In this eBook there are key highlights from the study, along with selected data from prior SMB Group studies, to deliver insights into the business, workforce, and technology implications of COVID-19 for SMBs and how they’re navigating to sustain their organizations.

The good news? While over half of respondents have seen revenues fall since the pandemic began, SMBs’ expectations for the future are becoming more optimistic. One-third of respondents are forecasting revenues to increase in the next six months and tools such as cloud video conferencing and collaboration solutions have been vital in weathering the pandemic fallout.
